Dear Friends,
Lately, natural gas has been “stealing the show” from heating oil, a fuel that has been immensely popular with homeowners for more than 60 years. I think oil deserves equal time, so here are a couple of reasons I think you should feel good about staying with oil to heat your home or business.
People like having an on-site supply of a fuel that is safe, reliable and, thanks to new low-sulfur blends and biofuels, greener than ever before.
I also like to remind people that oil is just as “natural” as gas, and that although both fuels release emissions into the atmosphere, natural gas may pose a greater environmental threat. That’s because it contains methane, which, according to The New York Times, has “20 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide.”*
Some people have rushed to natural gas because prices are low right now. But with more gas exports planned, more electric plants switching from coal to gas, and trucking fleets converting from gasoline to natural gas, demand is rising fast. And, as you know, higher demand results in higher prices.
Warmly,
Dave Talmage, General Manager
